A man accused of robberies and assaults in Newark and at Delaware Park has been arrested.

He was identified as Jeffrey S. Strengari, 41.

On February 16,  the Delaware Division of Gaming Enforcement (DGE) was notified of the robbery and assault of a 62-year-old woman in a  parking lot at Delaware Park.  The victim’s purse contained cash and various debit cards.

Delaware Park staff located surveillance footage of a suspect vehicle; however, the vehicle’s registration tag was reported stolen in July 2017.  With the assistance of surrounding law enforcement agencies, a possible suspect was found.   Information was obtained from the New Castle County Police, Maryland and Pennsylvania State Police about the suspect and vehicle.

On February 18, the Division of Gaming received another report of a robbery in the parking lot of Delaware Park that involved a  61-year-old female.

Shortly before Feb. 18  incident, the Newark Police Department received a report of a theft from an 86-year-old female.

The victim was in her car when the suspect approached and while engaging in conversation he reached into the car and stole her purse.  The suspect and the suspect’s vehicle were the same in both incidents. The suspect’s vehicle was spotted by the Newark Police Department but fled toward  Maryland before it could be stopped.

The Division of Gaming Enforcement with the assistance of Delaware State Police Troop 2 Detectives conducted surveillance at Delaware Park and other locations the suspect was known to frequent.

On February 23,   the United States Marshal’s  Task Force located the suspect at  Union Hospital in Elkton. He was transported to the Wilmington Hospital and arraigned.  He was placed in the custody of the Department of Corrections in lieu of $50,500 cash bond.
