In a surprise development,  St. Anthony of Padua Parish announced today that  Cindy Mann has been reinstated as Principal of Padua Academy, under the terms of her current contract, by Rev.  Nicholas F. Waseline,  pastor of the parish.

The reinstatement came as a surprise with Mann’s attorney indicating that chances of her reinstatement were not great.

Mrs. Mann had been abruptly fired by Waseline, triggering a firestorm among students, parents and alumni of the all-female high school in Wilmington.

The principal was popular among students who donned pink in expressing support for the principal.

The conflict reportedly centered on payments the school would make to the parish in the heart of Wilmington’s Little Italy neighborhood.

According to the statement, “Rev. Waseline took this action in the best interests of Padua Academy and its students, and in the hope that Mrs. Mann and he can work together for the benefit of both the Academy and the parish.”

Mrs. Mann may return to work as soon as her treating physician certifies that she is able to resume her duties as principal. After Mrs. Mann returns to work, as the end of the school year approaches, Waseline and Mann will discuss the renewal of her contract, the statement continued.

“The parish is willing to consider a two-year renewal, which would be inconsistent with diocesan policy, but the diocese is willing to make an exception for Mrs. Mann under the circumstances,” the statement concluded.
