Louise Cummings will be the featured speaker at the May 3 Governor’s Prayer Breakfast with the theme “Everyday Heroes: Neighbors Helping Neighbors.”

Following the death of her husband, Delaware State Police Corporal Stephen Ballard, in the line of duty in 2017, Cummings started Ballard’s Reading Buddies in partnership with the United Way of Delaware to help improve literacy and instill a love of reading in young children.

Cummings – whose career has ranged from working as an attorney in corporate and finance departments and leading organizations as a vice president to owning her own law group and consulting company – was appointed by Gov. John Carney in 2017 to serve as chair of the Delaware Women’s Workforce Council. She also serves on the Board of Trustees for the Rivers School in Massachusetts.

As part of the National Day of Prayer activities on Thursday, May 3, Carney will join Lt. Governor Bethany Hall-Long, elected officials and religious leaders and members of the community. This will be the 58th Annual Delaware Governor’s Prayer Breakfast, a tradition initiated by then-Governor J. Caleb Boggs as he ended his second term.

Hundreds of attendees are expected to gather at Dover’s Modern Maturity Center for the annual event.
