Delmarva Power crews are helping Atlantic City Electric crews deal with outages in South Jersey.

As Delmarva Power restores the last customers impacted by Winter Storm Toby, crews and support personnel are heading to support restoration efforts for Atlantic City Electric customers in South Jersey.

Delmarva Power crews and personnel worked through the night to restore service for impacted customers in Delaware and Maryland. In total, the storm impacted service to more than 20,000 Delmarva Power customers. The final customers are expected to have the lights on sometimes on Thursday night.

“March has been a busy month for us as our crews and personnel have worked around the clock during several storms to restore service for our customers as safely and quickly as possible,” said Gary Stockbridge, Delmarva Power region president. “Our restoration efforts for Toby won’t end today. We have a longstanding tradition of providing mutual assistance and we are proud to be able to help in the restoration efforts in South Jersey.”

Delmarva Power’s system was most heavily affected by the storm in southern New Castle County and northern Kent County, where crews dealt with numerous downed trees and damaged equipment in the area between Middletown and Smyrna.

However, Atlantic City Electric’s service area received the brunt of Toby, which caused widespread damage across South Jersey, impacting service for thousands of Atlantic City Electric customers. Atlantic City Electric and Delmarva were part of Pepco, which was sold to Exelon, the owner of Philadelphia’s Pepco and BG&E in Maryland.

Delmarva Power is sending more than 40 overhead linemen, as well as other support personnel, to join hundreds of additional resources from its Exelon sister utilities to help restore service to Atlantic City Electric customers.
