Jimmy’s Grille in Bridgeville is for sale.
Asking price for the local landmark is $1.7 million, according to the website of Sussex County real estate broker Jack Lingo. An adjacent banquet hall is also for sale for $475,000.
The listing first appeared in February.
A social media post indicated that the 221-seat restaurant will remain open while on the market.
The quarter-century-old restaurant that attracts beach traffic in the summer is known for fried chicken, breakfasts and Southern-style comfort foods at low prices. Jimmy’s Grille has other locations in higher traffic areas at Dewey Beach and Rehoboth.
Jimmy’s was last in the news when country-themed restaurant chain Cracker Barrel claimed that the appearance of the Rehoboth-area Jimmy’s too closely looked too much like one of its nearby restaurants. A settlement was apparently reached.
Jimmy’s one of the many enterprises of Alex Pires, a lawyer, and entrepreneur whose holdings include restaurants and nightclubs in Coastal Sussex. He is also a founder and chairman of Community Bank, a locally owned financial institution in Coastal Sussex. He also promotes concerts.
Pires did not initially respond to a request for comment to an inquiry made on Feb. 1 by Delaware Business Now.
The Delmarva Daily Times this week published a story on the property being for sale and received a similar response from Pires.
Making the numbers work for the business might not be easy unless the buyer paid cash. Even with a down payment and a favorable interest rate, the monthly payment alone on the property might run $15,000.
