State Rep. Harvey, Kenton, R-Milford, has announced plans to retire at the end of his term, the Delaware State News and other outlets reported.

Milford Mayor Bryan Shupe immediately announced plans to run for the seat in the 36th District  as a Republican.

Shupe, who is in his 30s, owns businesses that include the MilfordLive, hyperlocal news website.

The district, according to the State News, leans Democratic but has not been represented by a member of the party for many years. Republicans remain in the minority in the House, but have increasingly dominated races in southern Kent and Sussex counties.

Donald Allen, Jr., has filed for the post as a Democrat, the State News reported.
