Toys ‘R’ Us to close Dover location

Toys “R” Us will close its  Dover store as part of a plan to turn around  the struggling company.

Earlier filings have indicated 182 stores could close.  Polygon.com  and other sites listed the Dover store as one of the locations to close.

In a message to customers and shareholders, CEIO Dave Brandon said the following going out of business sales, most locations will be closed by mid-April.

Toys “R” Us, has struggled with completion from discounts Wal-Mart and Target as well as online competition.

Dover has also struggled with the loss of retailers, with Kmart closing and Walmart expanding outside the city. Of late, retailers and restaurants have opened stores as the former Walmart and other sites were repurposed.

Staying open will be a Toys “R” Us and Babies “R” Us stores in the Christiana Mall-Stanton area. The company’s Kid’s “R” Us chain, which had a store in the same area, shut down in the early 2000s.

The seven-decade-old company is based in northern New Jersey.
