Christiana Care Health System has earned five stars in the Five-Star Quality Rating System by the U.S. Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services’ Hospital Compare website.

It  marks the first time Christiana Care has received the five-star rating by CMS since it introduced its Five-Star Quality Rating System in July 2016. The agency created the star rating system to help consumers, their families, and caregivers compare the quality of hospitals more easily.

“To put it simply, at Christiana Care Health System, we are delivering excellent, high-quality care to the people we serve,” said Sharon L. Anderson, senior vice president of Quality and Patient Safety and chief population health officer at Christiana Care. “This recognition belongs to all of our exceptional physicians, nurses and staff who are dedicated to advancing a culture in which we place the patients and their families at the center of all that we do.”

A total of  337 hospitals, less than 11 percent of the hospitals nationwide that met the star-rating reporting criteria, earned all five stars.

Among the nation’s major teaching hospitals, Christiana Care was one of only 26 hospitals that are members of the Council of Teaching Hospitals and Health Systems  (COTH) to make the list. COTH members are academic teaching hospitals recognized throughout the world as a benchmark for excellence in patient care, research and medical education.
