Morning all,

Yesterday’s column on DART and its efforts to divert diesel-belching buses from Rodney Square brought a few responses. Community activists are upset at the transit agency’s plans to realign its Wilmington route system this month.

One commenter said a well-designed feeder bus (wheeled trolley)  system in downtown would answer some of the concerns from riders worried about long walks to catch the bus.

As noted in the column, we should see a transportation hub on the southern end of downtown in coming years.

Others pointed to the hazards of navigating Rodney Square with the heavy presence of buses.

Of course, many Wilmington bus riders would not like conditions in Philadelphia or other big cities where walks of six blocks or more to the bus or train are commonplace.

Various approaches have been tried over the years and barring a last-minute reversal,  DART will have to find creative ways to keep riders happy or less unhappy.

While DART’s decision-making process is a heavily regulated affair, it would also be a good idea for transit officials to be more accessible.

I have an inquiry into DART that has not been answered since I first submitted it around Thanksgiving. An inquiry into parent agency DelDOT asking who I should speak to at DART  met a similar fate.

Newark parking fee hike delayed for now

To the west in Newark, council members waded through a four-hour long meeting and did not get around to a controversial proposal to raise parking fees.

City spokesperson Kelly Bachman said no single issue was responsible for the marathon meeting.

The parking issue will return next month. If you want to check out Newark City Council meetings from the comfort of your home,  via  Livestream.
