The finals in national  OpenBracket competition will return to Wilmington in October.

The Delaware organization announced the competition on its website. Work on the event has been under way since early this year.

The first round in August will be an online code sprint hosted by HackerRank. The event features individuals, rather than teams.

The winner of the first round receives $5,000, second place receives $1,000, and up to 100 of the top competitors will be chosen to receive paid travel to Delaware for the finals.

In late October, the winners will come to Wilmington.

The first round will be every coder against every coder and will be used to seed the single-elimination brackets.

The final, championship round will feature the winners of each of the brackets.   Participants will be competing for their share of $15,000.

Sponsors include financial services companies, M&T, WSFS, Capital One, Christiana Care and Barclaycard.

The OpenBracket website noted that the Wilmington-based sponsors of the event are hiring coders.

The first OpenBracket competition was held in Wilmington in 2016.

Technical.ly Delaware reported the event was the brainchild of  Zip Code Wilmington co-founder Ben duPont. Zip Code is a rigorous  “bootcamp” that aims to place graduates into coding jobs.
