Beach homebuilder, HGTV star offers online shop that donates profits to charity

Marnie Oursler, founder and President of Marnie Custom Homes, Bethany Beach and star of beach home renovation show Big Beach Builds on DIY Network, announced the launch of Sawdust & Salt Co ., an online shop where 100 percent of profits will go to charity.

Oursler’s shop is dedicated to her maternal grandfather “Pop-Pop” – a World War II Captain and master carpenter.Upon checkout from Sawdust & Salt Co.,

Upon checkout from Sawdust & Salt Co., customers have an opportunity to pay it forward by choosing among one of the four featured charities to donate their purchase. Oursler selected the following four charities for customers to donate to upon check-out: Oceana, Girls Who Code, Operation Surf, and St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.

Oceana is dedicated to protecting and restoring oceans. Girls Who Code’s mission is to close the gender gap in technology. Operation Surf helps wounded war veterans and heroes learn to surf in order to help reduce PTSD symptoms. Finally, St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital is dedicated to ending pediatric cancer.

“I knew I wanted to honor my family with the launch of Sawdust & Salt Co. I am a 5th-generation home builder, and giving back is an integral part of my family’s legacy on both sides,” said Oursler, “It’s because of my father and my grandfathers that I’m a home builder, and it’s in tribute to Pop-Pop and my family’s philanthropic roots, that I’m giving 100 percent of the profits from everything sold in Sawdust & Salt Co. to the featured charities.”

Oursler will change the charities every few months, and encourages customers to reach out to her at if there is a special cause they’d like to see featured on Sawdust & Salt Co.
