Dr. Trisha Medeiros has been named as Ursuline Academy’s sixth president, effective July 1.
Medeiros is joining Ursuline, located in Wilmington, from Stuart Country Day School of the Sacred Heart, Princeton, NJ, where she has been the Head of Upper School, Founder & Director of Stuart Center for Girls’ Leadership, and teacher of Social Justice and Ethics.
Usuline is a Caholic girls high school.
During her tenure, Stuart Upper School enrollment grew by 19 percent, achieving one of the highest total enrollment levels in Stuart’s 52-year history.
She secured funding to launch the Stuart Center for Girls’ Leadership, which focuses on the empowerment of the next generation of female leaders.
“Central to Trisha’s Stuart successes is her dedication to our Sacred Heart Goals and Criteria – values identical to those of Ursuline Academy. Trisha is both a strategic thinker and a highly effective communicator,” said Dr. Patty Fagin, Head of School, Stuart Country Day School of the Sacred Heart. “Shortly after arriving at Stuart, she assessed the need to capitalize on our strengths in educating girls for leadership and to bolster programming in finance and technology. Her excitement and well-articulated vision for cutting-edge offerings in these areas has garnered significant (six-figure) gifts for STEM, leadership and financial literacy in just three short years. These gifts have funded teacher training, support for new courses and clubs, and the development of signature experiences for our girls in each of these areas.”
Before joining Stuart, Trisha spent 10 years locally at Tower Hill School where she held numerous roles culminating in Assistant Head of Upper School.
Medeiros worked at New York University and Pepperdine University. Trisha earned a Masters in Information Science from Rutgers University and a doctorate in Educational Leadership from the University of Delaware.
“Having lived in Delaware for over a decade, I well knew Ursuline’s powerful reputation for developing confident, young scholars who make a significant difference in the world. Within moments of a recent visit to campus, one characteristic was abundantly clear – Ursuline pride is everywhere,” said Medeiros. “After spending time with multiple constituencies of the Ursuline team, it is evident that all share a passionate commitment to educate to the ideals of St. Angela’s ministry, empowering students to make their imprint on our world. I am honored to become part of this extraordinary community in service to this profound mission.”
Medeiros will assume leadership of Ursuline Academy in its 124th year, following the tenure of Cathie Field Lloyd, who will retire after 10 years of service.
Under Lloyd’s leadership, Ursuline increased the depth of its global education program with Ursuline sister schools from around the world, expanded its leadership program, initiated an Innovation Center in partnership with 1313 Innovation and the University of Delaware Horn Program, this spring will break ground on a new Student Life Center.
