Grain Craft Bar + Kitchen will have three locations by this spring.

The owners of the Half Moon Restaurant and Saloon in Kennett Square announced on their web and Facebook page their plans to retire and turn over the business to Grain’s managing partners.

The restaurant will undergo renovations in March and April before reopening. The last day for the Half Moon is March 11.

Half Moon, which was around about 20 years, was known for its wild game offerings such as kangaroo, wild boar and venison.

During its existence, Half Moon has seen a boom in restaurants and overall activity in downtown Kennett.

In the Kennett area,  Grain’s owners will have find a familiar competitor in the form of Two Stones, which operates a suburban location. Two Stones got its start in the Brookstone area outside Newark and has since grown to five locations and a brewery in Delaware County, PA.

Regional brewer Victory also operates a brewpub in Kennett and a beer garden also opened last summer.

Another mainstay in Kennett is the Giordano family, which operates a restaurant in the borough as well as  Schaefer’s Canal House in Chesapeake City, MD, a short drive or boat ride from the planned Grain H20.

Earlier this year, Grain owners Lee Mikles and Jim O’Donoghue announced plans to open the former Aqua Sol near the C&D Canal in the Glasgow area south of Newark. The restaurant at the Summit North Marina will be known as Grain H2O. A May opening is planned.

Grain got its start in 2015 when Mikles and O’Donoghue reopened the former Mojo Main and East End Café locations on East Main Street in Newark. Grain features craft beer as well as live acoustic entertainment.
