A report from an employment services company lists computer systems analyst as the most promising position for college graduates, based on job growth and salary.

The report from Zippia said the $58,000 starting salary and projected 21 percent growth in the number of computer systems analysts by 2024 led to the top ranking

Ranking second, according to Zippia is credit analyst, although starting salaries are considerably lower than for computer systems analysts.

The demand for credit analysts is a reflection of the state’s large financial services industry.

Ranking three, four and five respectively on the list are cost estimates, management analysts and paralegals.

The ranking was based on data from the Delaware Department of Labor and the Bureau of Labor Statistics and the requirement that the jobs listed require a bachelor’s degree.

The only one of the 11 positions listed that is expected to see a decline in total jobs is computer programmer.

That seems to run counter to the strong demand for people who can write computer code for mobile apps and other purposes.  However, coding does not necessarily require a bachelor’s degree.

Nonprofit Zip Code Wilmington has set up a highly acclaimed six month coding “boot camp” for people who are looking to move up to better-paying positions.
