Belfint, Lyons & Shuman, P.A. (BLS), a certified public accounting and consulting firm with offices in Delaware and Pennsylvania, announced the following promotions.

Casey A. Hagy, CPA, Stacey I. Snyder, CPA, QKA, TGPC, and Saaib Uppal, CPA have each been promoted to Supervisor in the firm’s Accounting & Auditing Department.

Casey A. Hagy, CPA specializes in nonprofit audits and will celebrate her 5th anniversary with BLS in June. She has a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Cedarville University.

Stacey I. Snyder, CPA, QKA, TGPC specializes in the Employee Benefit Plan Audit Section and will celebrate her 5th anniversary with BLS in June. She has a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Widener University and a Master of Science degree in Accounting from the University of Delaware.

Saaib Uppal, CPA assists the Employee Benefit Plan Audit Section and will celebrate his 6th anniversary with BLS in June. He has a Bachelor of Science and a Master’s degree in Accounting from the University of Delaware.

Navient names EVP

Navient announced that Christian Lown will join the company as executive vice president and chief financial officer, effective March 27, 2017. Somsak Chivavibul, current CFO, will spearhead the launch of a new enterprise-wide decision management center.

Lown comes to Navient with over 20 years of experience in investment banking and equity research and sales in the United States and Asia. Most recently, Lown was an investment banker at Morgan Stanley for over 10 years, where he was a managing director in the financial institutions group, serving as co-head of the banks, diversified finance and financial technology practices in North America. In that capacity, he advised clients on capital markets transactions, mergers and acquisitions, and other corporate finance matters. Before moving to Morgan Stanley, Lown was an investment banker at UBS and Credit Suisse, and was an equity analyst in Asia for Credit Lyonnais Securities Asia. Lown holds an M.B.A. from the Darden Graduate School of Business Administration at the University of Virginia and a B.A. from Lynchburg College.

Chivavibul will assume his new role as the company’s executive vice president and chief decision management officer on March 27. Reporting to the CEO, Chivavibul will focus on further leveraging the company’s data assets, infrastructure and talent to provide insights to enhance business strategy, performance, and value for customers and shareholders. Chivavibul joined the company in 1992, and recently played an important leadership role in the successful spin-off of Navient, served as its CFO since 2014 and completed several significant financial initiatives.

DRBA Commission Reorganizes; Elects Chair, Vice Chair

 James N. Hogan of Franklinville, New Jersey, and William E. Lowe, III of Lewes, Delaware, were sworn-in to the leadership posts of Chairman and Vice Chairman respectively at the DRBA Commission bi-state agency’s monthly meeting.  Hogan and Lowe were unanimously selected to serve in the leadership roles by their fellow Commissioners at the conclusion of last month’s meeting held on January 18, 2017. The leadership posts of Chairman and Vice Chairman rotate between the States of Delaware and New Jersey every two years. 

 

Vincent named president of state association

Sussex County Council President Michael H. Vincent of Seaford has been appointed by the Delaware Association of Counties to serve as the group’s president for 2017.

Vincent  will represent the county governments’ association, working closely with fellow county officials, as well as state and federal officials, to represent local governments’ interest in matters in Legislative Hall in Dover and Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C. The appointment, Vincent’s first as the president of the association, is voluntary and for a term of one year. Members of the Delaware Association of Counties made their selection at the annual meeting in January.

He has served on Sussex County Council since 2009, and has been elected president by his fellow members for the past seven years. He will continue in his elected duties as a County Council member and as Council president.

OperaDelaware names board members

The board of directors of OperaDelaware, the arts organization announced new board members

Chad E.G. Kifer of Hockessin joined the board in January. He is Director of Advancement at Wilmington’s Padua Academy. In this role, Kifer has overseen programs that have delivered millions in grants and individual donations over a seven-year period. Prior to joining Padua Academy, Kifer was Executive Director of Constituent and Alumni Affairs for the Intercollegiate Studies Institute, based in Greenville. Kifer is an honors graduate of Clarion University of Pennsylvania, and holds a Master’s Degree in Political Science from Miami University.

Samuel A. Nolen of Wilmington has practiced corporate law in Delaware since 1980. He is a director of the law firm Richards, Layton & Finger in Wilmington, where he is an experienced corporate litigator in the Delaware Court of Chancery and the Delaware Supreme Court. Nolen is a trusted advisor to individuals, corporate boards of directors and management on corporate governance, transactional and control dispute issues. He also is an expert in mergers and acquisitions and director liability. Nolen is a graduate of Vanderbilt University, where he earned a B.A. degree in German and Political Science. He received his J.D. degree from Washington and Lee University School of Law. His professional honors include The Best Lawyers in America and Who’s Who in American Law

Sharon Gaudino  was also appointed to the OperaDelaware board in January. She is Director of Learning Services for Computer Aid, Inc. (CAI), a Delaware information technology (IT) services firm. She specializes in corporate training and consulting, and prior to CAI, worked for MBNA America, WSFS Bank, and Wesley College. Gaudino holds undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of Delaware in Psychology and Business Administration, respectively. A dedicated community volunteer, Gaudino served the Ronald McDonald House as a member of the Red Shoe Society and an active volunteer for many years.

The new board members will serve renewable two-year terms.

Ferber named to Sussex coalition board

Robert C. Ferber, MD,  clinical Iinnovation officer at Nanticoke Health Services, has been appointed as a board member of the Sussex County Health Coalition (SCHC).

Ferber has served Sussex County as a physician for over thirty years, running a private practice for 17 years and then served as the founding Medical Director of Nanticoke Memorial Hospital’s Hospitalist Program, which started in 2004. He now serves as Nanticoke’s Chief Clinical Innovation Officer, where he is responsible for population health and clinical integration strategies to improve patient experience, clinical quality and the total cost of care.

Riar joins Bayhealth Family Medicine

Bayhealth Family Medicine, Georgetown welcomed Jehan Riar, MD.
Riar earned a medical degree from St. Matthew’s University School of Medicine in the Grand Cayman Islands. She completed her internal medicine residency at St. Louis University in Missouri. 

Nanticoke names human resources VP

Nanticoke Health Services announced that Traci Alley, MSM, PHR, SHRM-CP, has been named Vice President of Human Resources. Alley will oversee the day-to-day operations of Nanticoke’s Human Resources Department and centralize Nanticoke’s organizational development activities.

She has over has over 16 years of experience in business and human resource management and is a Society for Human Resource Management Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) and a certified Professional in Human Resources (PHR). She earned her Master of Science in Management with a concentration in Human Resource Management from Wilmington University in Wilmington, Delaware. Alley brings experience in organizational effectiveness, talent management, and Human Resource process improvement.

Berkshire Hathaway adds White

Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Fox & Roach, Realtors Hockessin-Pike Creek Home Marketing Center, welcomed Reid White as a sales associate. White serves New Castle County.
