Sears to close appliance showroom near Christiana Mall


A Sears Home Appliance store near Christiana Mall is holding a going out of business sale.

The store has operated for several years In a strip center near the mall.

The parent company of the store has posted losses and earlier in the year announced plans to close underperforming locations.

The company also operates Hometown and Outlet stores. An outlet store operates a short distance away from the Christiana at University Plaza, with discontinued, and scratch and dent appliances, lawn equipment, tools and furniture

A separate company operates Kmart and Sears department stores. However, the two are intertwined through product lines and other systems.

The Christina location found itself with a formidable competitor when Best Buy opened a store in the nearby Christiana Fashion Center. Also operating nearby is hhgregg, with JC Penney recently returning to the appliance business. The hhgregg store also closed this year.

Penneys has been working to gain market share with free delivery and discounts.
