Stat International cut the ribbon Thursday on its new co-working center, The Hub @1201 at 1201 N. Orange St in downtown Wilmington.

The Hub @1201 marks a return to co-working, company President Richard Stat said. Stat, pioneered the use of share office space 30 years ago at the 1201 N. Orange St. high-rise known as One Commerce Center. The building is the headquarters of the Delaware State Chamber of Commerce.

Stat took note of the growth of co-working space in the city with 1313 Innovation, The Hill and The Loft, formerly CoIn Loft becoming the home of many start-ups.

The ribbon cutting ceremony may have been a first with both the Delaware State Chamber of Commerce and New Castle County Chamber of Commerce marking the opening of the building and the renaming of its parent company to Stat International.

Helping cut the ribbon with Richard  Stat was  nearly 100-year-old father, who was  was  warmly applauded by the crowd.

The Hub has some of the touches of other new generation co-working centers that feature an open format, industrial design and original artwork. One difference is the eighth-floor corner office view of the city.

The Hub will feature high-speed internet from local start-up company WhyFly. WhyFly offers wireless broadband internet beamed from an antenna  in downtown Wilmington,  an area where smaller businesses have complained about low speeds.
