A new partnership between the State of Delaware and the non-profit First Book organization will bring thousands of books to children from low-income families in Delaware.
Anyone who joins the First Book network (there is no charge) will have access to the free and low-cost books and resources that First Book provides, as well as any subsidized funding that First Book secures from its partners to further reduce the already low cost of resources for educators and programs with no budget.
Once you register, you also will receive an invitation to participate in a kick-off event on Saturday, December 17 at Brandywine High School or North Georgetown Elementary.
The Dec. 17 events, geared toward families, will help children to create home libraries for the holidays. Anyone serving disadvantaged children in Delaware is invited to attend the event and select up to 50 books for the children (ages 0-18) and families they serve. Every child who attends the event will be able to select 10 books for his or her home library.
First Book’s free Open eBooks platform also offers families a free digital library of thousands of titles for use on smart phones or tablets. Also, First Book offers content-specific book collections that include free, expert-created tip sheets to promote meaningful interactions when reading aloud with young children.
