The Hub co-working center  to hold grand opening  today

Benjamin’s Desk announced it has been named by 1313 Innovation   as  the operating partner for the expanded co-working space at its Wilmington.

Also opening is a new co-working space just up the street  as The Mill  undergoes an expansion.

The business  incubator was started by McConnell Johnson, owner of the Hercules Plaza building at 1313 N. Market Street in the city

The facility will now be known as 1313 Innovation Powered by Benjamin’s Desk.

Benjamin’s Desk will create and host workshops, programs and professional development resources for this community.

Existing 1313 Innovation companies  will remain on site.

1313 Innovation powered by Benjamin’s Desk offers  a membership for occasional use of the space,  part-time and full-time access and office space for start-up businesses.

A second co-working space The Hub @1201, will hold a ribbon cutting ceremony on Thursday.

“We understand the challenges of entrepreneurs, having served the business community for more than 30 years,” says Richard Stat, president. “We decided to dedicate the 8th floor space to provide a new twist on the workplace for professionals who want to work in an environment that provides more freedom and fellowship than a traditional office space.”

In addition to panoramic city views, The Hub @ 1201 features modern industrial design and furnishings, high-speed WiFi, kitchen and café area, breakout meeting spaces, a brainstorming wall and networking opportunities within a caring community of business owners both in The Hub and throughout the building.

The grand opening celebration begins at 4:00 p.m. on the 7th floor, followed by a ribbon-cutting ceremony by the Delaware State Chamber of Commerce. Other activities include a scavenger hunt, networking, food provided by Sherm’s catering and a variety of international treats throughout the building.

The openings come as The Mill, a co-working community  in the Nemours Building undergoes an expansion after quickly  moving to full occupancy after its opening this year. The new space is slated to open in 2017.

The Mill was recently  ranked ninth in a listing of the 50 Coolest Co-Working spaces by Paste  Magazine. The mill is also  working  in partnership with other organizations to operate Theater N.

The theater in the Nemours Building  features independent films and is available for corporate meetings and events.

Also coming to the downtown is NextFab,  a Philadelphia-based “maker space” community that allows start-ups and artisans to do fabrication and other projects.

The co-working spaces are in addition to Brandywine Executive Center, a locally owned shared office provider with locations in Wilmington and just outside the city on Concord Pike.

International firm Regus also has locations in Wilmington and the Newark area.
