screen-shot-2016-10-15-at-7-18-24-pmA Mexican gastropub is poised to take the place of the now-closed Kooma Asian restaurant on the Wilmington Riverfront.

Kooma closed in May. The restaurant has another location in West Chester, PA.

DelPez did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Del Pez has filed for alcohol beverage permits for 400 Justison Street, according to a recent legal notice. The Kooma space also has room for dancing and entertainment.

Another Del Pez operates on Main Street in Newark at the former site of the Napoli Italian restaurant.

Based on the menu at the Newark location, Del Pez offers Latin cuisine, including seafood as well as more standard fare like hamburgers.

Del Pez is part of Hakuna Hospitality, a  group of Latino  restaurants  that also operates a taqueria at the nearby Riverfront Market.

Hakuna also operates a Santa on Pennsylvania Avenue, near Wilmington’s Little Italy neighborhood. Its space is slated to be demolished, with a new complex to house  a mixed-use apartment and retail project.
