Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children received a $217,000 donation made through the estate of Rev.  Oscar H. Frundt, a Roman Catholic priest in the Diocese of Wilmington who passed away in 2015 at age 87.

Frundt served several parishes in the state, including St. Joseph on the Brandywine in Greenville, Holy Cross in Dover, and Holy Rosary, Immaculate Heart of Mary and Christ Our King in Wilmington.
Also,  Frundt served as Delaware State Police chaplain from 1966 until his death. In 2009, he became the first-ever chaplain to attain the rank of colonel with the state police.
For more than 50 years, his ministry touched the lives of troopers and their families. A large contingent of current and retired troopers was on hand at the September 12 check presentation.

Superintendent Col.  Nate McQueen, long timesaid that   Frundt became “a part of the way we did business. He helped us through countless tragedies and was there to celebrate with us. He made everyone feel important. He will always be a part of our memory and our history.”

Attolongtimefriend of  Frundt,  Mort Kimmel explained that the priest “always had a deep affinity for children’s causes”stemming from the loss of his twin sister at age 5 to pneumonia. “He was an amazing guy,” he added. “He always put others before himself. To know him was to love him.”
Hospital President Paul Kempinski said the donation from Fr. Frundt’s estate would be applied primarily toward programs for children with developmental and behavioral challenges and that a space in that treatment area would bear his name.
