Navient board diversity noted

Navient held its 2016 Annual Meeting of Shareholders in Wilmington, Shareholders voted in accordance with the recommendations of the company’s board of directors on each of the four proposals at the meeting.

The shareholders re-elected the 12 nominees named in the proxy statement to serve as directors for one-year terms or until their successors have been duly elected and qualified. The company’s directors are: Chairman William M. Diefenderfer III, John K. Adams, Ann Torre Bates, Anna Escobedo Cabral, Diane Suitt Gilleland, Katherine A. Lehman, Linda A. Mills, Barry A. Munitz, John (Jack) F. Remondi, Jane J. Thompson, Laura S. Unger and Barry L. Williams.

 As planned, long-time Director Steven L. Shapiro retired at the annual meeting. Shapiro is a certified public accountant with the firm of Alloy, Silverstein, Shapiro, Adams, Mulford, Cicalese, Wilson & Co. He played an integral role in the creation of Navient. He previously served on the Boards of Directors of the Student Loan Marketing Association and SLM Corporation and had been a Director since 1995.

Today, seven of the 12 directors are women, representing   58 percent of the company’s board and attracting nationwide recognition from 2020 Women on Boards, the Women’s Forum of New York, and the New York Stock Exchange Governance Services.

Chesapeake Utilities adds VP

Chesapeake Utilities announced that Sheri Richard has joined the Company as Vice President of Rates and Regulatory Affairs. In this role, she will manage Chesapeake’s rates and regulatory affairs and communicate the Company’s position on business and regulatory matters to various governmental authorities.  Richard will be directly responsible for handling government relations with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) and the Delaware and Maryland Public Service Commissions.

She brings over 16 years of broad-based regulatory experience in the energy industry to Chesapeake Utilities including case management, testimonials, strategy, budget and financial reporting. She has extensive experience managing rates cases for approval, testifying before regulatory commissions and developing and recommending strategies for cost recovery requests.

Richard comes to Chesapeake Utilities from OGE Energy Corporation. Based in Oklahoma City, OGE Energy is the parent company of Oklahoma Gas and Electric, a regulated utility serving approximately 825,000 electric customers in Oklahoma and Arkansas. While at OGE Energy, Richard actively participated in over 25 proceedings in several jurisdictions.  She has held various positions with OGE including Director of Revenue Requirements since 2008, Manager of Costing and Pricing, Manager of AP & Special Projects and Business Support Supervisor.

Richard earned her Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Northwestern Oklahoma State University, and her Masters of Business Administration from the University of Phoenix. She is a Certified Public Accountant.

Glandon joins Artisans’ Bank as SVP

Artisans’ Bank announced that Todd W. Glandon has been

promoted to Senior Vice President and Chief Credit Officer. Glandon is responsible for the overall management of the Bank’s Credit Administration Department.  His key responsibilities include overseeing new and renewed extensions of credit and ensuring lending and reporting activities are in compliance with applicable regulations.  In addition, he manages all underwriting, lending support, loan policies and procedures and the Commercial Appraisal function.  He is a member of the Senior Management Team and reports directly to the President & CEO.

Prior to joining the Bank in 2012, he held several management positions during his 23 years at the former Wilmington Trust Corporation.

Glandon is a graduate of the University of Delaware, Newark,  where he received both B.A. and M.A. degrees in Economics.

DSU names provost

Delaware State University announced the appointment of Dr. James H. Ammons as its new Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs after months of searching and days of campus interviews with various stakeholders.

Ammons – a native of Winter Haven, Fl – is currently a professor of political science at Florida A&M University (FAMU), his alma mater. His career at FAMU spanned two separate tenures totaling 27 years as a tenured professor and executive administrator – including serving as that institution’s president from 2007-2012 and as its provost and vice president of Academic Affairs from 1995-2001.

In between those FAMU tenures, he was the chancellor at North Carolina Central University from 2001-2007.

Ammons’ experience includes leading each institution’s strategic planning process and aligning those outcomes with academic excellence and quality programs.  A few highlights in Ammons’ career are the development of 22 new degree programs, increased enrollment and the re-establishment of the FAMU College of Law.

His number one priority at Delaware State University is to continue to “move the needle” on retention, graduation and gainful employment at DSU. “Together, we will continue to strive to be a model HBCU and a model for higher educational institutions around the world,” the new provost said.

He has a Bachelor of Science in Political Science from Florida A&M, a Master of Science in Public Administration and a Ph.D. in Government, both from Florida State University.

Ammons will replace Dr. Alton Thompson, who resigned from the University on March 4.  The new provost and vice president of Academic Affairs will begin his post at DSU on July 5.

Perdue names senior executive

Chairman Jim Perdue announced that Andrea Staub has joined Perdue Farms as senior vice president of corporate communications.

Staub will be responsible for developing and leading the internal and external strategic communication activities for the company. She will provide communications counsel and serve as a company spokesperson to the media. She will oversee community relations’ activities and promote, protect and enhance the reputation of the Perdue brand.

Staub is a 25-year corporate communications professional who comes to Perdue with experience in a broad array of industries. Prior to joining Perdue, she was vice president of global corporate communications at NBTY Inc., a global manufacturer, marketer, distributor and retailer of vitamins, and sports and active nutrition products. Staub also served as director of corporate communications for Capital One Financial Corp. and Symbol Technologies, director of media relations for natural gas company KeySpan Corp., and was owner of Blake Hunter Communications, an independent public relations consulting firm.

Staub holds a bachelor of arts’ degree in communication from New York Institute of Technology.

Nanticoke adds dietitian

The Nanticoke Physician Network welcomed Kimberly Hyatt to the position of Bariatric Dietitian. Hyatt joins Drs. Waked and Palavecino at Nanticoke Weight Loss and General Surgery.

Hyatt graduated Summa Cum Laude from Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 2007 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Dietetics and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology. Prior to obtaining her registration, she worked as a nutrition educator in the school district of Philadelphia. She is a 2010 graduate of the dietetic internship at Immaculata University in Immaculata, Pennsylvania and is currently a licensed dietitian in Maryland and Delaware.

Hyatt has worked in acute care, long-term care, and community nutrition. At Nanticoke Weight Loss and General Surgery, she assesses each individual patient’s nutritional status and follows patients throughout their weight loss process to assist with specific nutritional concerns.
