Williams appointed to two board of directors

Delaware State University President Harry L. Williams has been appointed to the board of directors of two major organizations – the Thurgood Marshall College Fund (TMCF) and Bayhealth.

Jim Clifton, TMCF board chairman and president of Gallup, said that Dr. Williams was a natural choice. “He has been a longtime partner as the leader of one of TMCF’s most successful member-schools,” said Clifton.

“Serving on the board of TMCF will give me an opportunity to help other HBCUs by sharing some of the innovative strategies we are implementing at DSU to retain and graduate our students,” said Dr. Williams. “It’s a tremendous honor to serve on this esteemed board.”

Named for the U.S. Supreme Court’s first African-American justice and established in 1987, TMCF supports and represents nearly 300,000 students attending its 47 member-schools that include publicly-supported Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), medical schools and law schools.

Dr. Williams has also been appointed to the Board of Directors of Bayhealth.

Wiseley promoted at TD Bank

TD Bank has promoted Katrina (Kate) M. Wiseley to Assistant Vice President.

She is responsible for new business development, consumer and business lending, managing personnel and overseeing the day-to-day operations at the store serving customers across Delaware County. Wiseley has almost 12 years of banking experience. She joined TD Bank in 2012 as Assistant Store Manager in Media, Penn. Before that, Wiseley worked for eight year at Citizens Bank. A Drexel Hill, Pa.  Wiseley is a 1999 graduate of Johnson & Wales University in Providence, R.I.

Bennett joins DRBA board

The  Delaware River and Bay Authority (DRBA) Commission announced James Bennett of Sea Isle City, N.J. has joined the board.

Bennett is the owner of several successful Sea Isle City businesses, including Lobster Loft Liquors, the Lobster Loft Restaurant, LaCosta Package Goods and Lounge, the Coast Motel and Casino Steaks and Pizzeria Restaurant.  Bennett is currently serving as the President of the New Jersey Licensed Beverage Association and as a member of the Division of Alcoholic Beverage Control Advisory Board.

A graduate of York College with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration, he serves as the Chairman of the Sea Isle City Tourism Board, an organization that is focused on promoting Sea Isle City as a destination of choice.  Bennett is also a member of the Sea Isle City Chamber of Commerce and was a volunteer coach of the Ocean City Youth Recreational Wrestling Program. He replaces Richard S. Mroz, Esq. who resigned in 2014 following his appointment to serve as President of the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities.

Szumel joins Board of Directors at Union Hospital

Union Hospital’s Board of Directors has selected Richard C. Szumel, M.D., as the organization’s next president and chief executive officer. Szumel, who currently serves as the hospital’s Laboratory Medical Director, will succeed Dr. Kenneth Lewis, the hospital’s current CEO, on January 1, 2016.

Szumel, a board-certified physician in Anatomic Pathology & Clinical Pathology, has been a member of Union Hospital’s medical staff since 1997. He has served in a number of leadership roles in the organization, including President of the Medical Staff.

Szumel received his medical degree from Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, residency training at Northwestern memorial Hospital in Chicago, Illinois, and fellowship training at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas

Nguyen joins Nanticoke Physician Network

Nanticoke Physician Network welcomed Maria Nguyen, MD, to its active medical staff.

Nguyen received her Honors Bachelor of Science in Cell Biology from the University of Western Ontario in Ontario, Canada and her Doctor of Medicine from St. George’s University School of Medicine in True Blue, Grenada. She completed her residency in Family Medicine at Northeast Iowa Medical Education Foundation in Waterloo, Iowa.

She is board-certified in Family Medicine. Her professional memberships include the American Medical Association, the American Academy of Family Physicians, and the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine.

Perdue announces appointments

Perdue Farms announces two executive appointments in the areas of Sustainability and Live Production. Steve Levitsky has joined Perdue Farms Inc. as Vice President of Sustainability. Mike Levengood has been named to the new position of Vice President, Chief Animal Care Officer and Farmer Relationship Advocate for Perdue Foods LLC.

Levitsky joins Perdue from American Sugar Refining Inc. in Baltimore, where he served as Director of Corporate Sustainability and helped create and implement a global sustainability program. Levitsky reports to Chairman Jim Perdue.

Levitsky will be responsible for advancing Perdue’s progress in achieving sustainable growth, fostering working relationships with a broad-spectrum of stakeholders at the federal, state and local level, and serving as the company’s spokesperson on sustainability and environmental matters.

Prior to American Sugar, Levitsky served as Manager of Environmental and Sustainability Services for Sustainable Resources Group in State College, Pa., and Vice President of Chambers Environmental Group in Bellefonte, Pa. He has been on the Board of Directors of the International Society of Sustainability Professionals since 2012, and served on the Maryland State Commission on Environmental Justice and Sustainable Communities by appointment of the governor. He is also a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Accredited Professional for new construction.

Levitsky holds a bachelor of science degree in environmental resource management, a master’s degree in business administration and completed graduate degree soil science classes to obtain soil scientist certification.  All of his degrees are from Pennsylvania State University.

Levengood, a 31-year veteran at Perdue, has been named to the new position of Vice President, Chief Animal Care Officer and Farmer Relationship Advocate for Perdue Foods. The new position was created to increase focus on further improving Perdue’s animal husbandry programs, and maintaining and enhancing relationships with farmers.

Levengood will be responsible for managing and ensuring compliance and continuous innovation of Perdue’s poultry welfare and biosecurity programs, and advancing the relationships with those who raise the company’s chickens under contract.

Levengood, who joined Perdue as a flock advisor working with farm families, has experience in roles of increasing responsibility both in processing and live production operations. He serves on the board of the U.S. Poultry and Egg Association, is a past chairman of the National Chicken Council Growout Committee and still serves on the committee in an advisory role. Levengood has a bachelor’s degree in agricultural business management from Pennsylvania State University.

Two join Patterson-Schwartz Real Estate

Patterson-Schwartz Real Estate added Linda McKinnon to their Cecil County office as a sales associate licensed in Maryland, Delaware and Pennsylvania. She is a Wilmington University graduate with a degree in business management, led a 28 year career as regional supply chain manager for Kraft Foods before earning her real estate license in 2002. She was named 2008 and 2015 REALTOR® of the Year by Cecil County Board of  Realtors , as well as the 2015 and 2016 Maryland State REALTOR® of the Year..

McKinnon has played an active role in the local real estate community and currently serves on the board of directors for the Cecil County Board of Realtors , as well as the Chair Equal Opportunity/Diversity Committee of the Maryland Association of Realtors.  Upon graduating from the Maryland Association of Realtors Leadership Academy in 2009, Linda received the prestigious W.H.C. Wilson Award which is granted to the graduate who best demonstrates integrity, a desire to lead, and a high ethical standard, both professionally and through community involvement.

Patterson-Schwartz Real Estate welcomed Susie Miller to their Cecil County office as a sales associate licensed in Maryland. Miller, a former commercial and Industrial concrete contractor for 25 years, began her career as a full-time real estate professional over 2 years ago. She has been recognized with the Million in a Month Written Listings Production Award as well as the Top Property Listings Award for Agent Volume & Units Listed. Susie is a member of the Cecil County Board of Realtors  where she serves on the member benefits committee.

Reyburn joins Patterson-Schwartz Real Estate

Patterson-Schwartz Real Estate welcomed Sue Reyburn to their Newark office as a sales associate licensed in Delaware. Sue has 32 years of experience in residential real estate sales and 5 years of experience specializing in new construction. As a full-time sales associate she has earned her Graduate Realtor  Institute (GRI), Certified Site Professional (CSP) and Accredited Buyer’s Representative (ABR) designations. She is a member of the New Castle County Board of Realtors.

Troupe joins Patterson-Schwartz Real Estate

Patterson-Schwartz Real Estate welcomed Emilie Troupe to their Brandywine office as a sales associate licensed in Delaware. Troupe is a Shippensburg University graduate with a bachelor’s degree in political science.  She is a member of the New Castle County Board of Realtors.

George, Miles & Buhr’s  new additions

Tony Timbrell joins George, Miles & Buhr as a Construction Representative/ RPR in our Salisbury office. Timbrell comes to GMB with over 35 years of prior experience in the Engineering and Construction Management fields. He received his Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from the Missouri University of Science and Technology. Timbrell is responsible for overseeing the Salisbury Riverwalk Repairs.

Tim Mulcahy recently joined the GMB team as a Construction Representative/ RPR. He has 25 years of prior Construction Inspection experience. Mulcahy’s prior experience includes working at Wallops Island, Virginia, where he was responsible for inspecting multiple NASA Projects. He is currently working on the Morris Mill Water Tank project in Fruitland, MD.

Duane Hoffman  joins the GMB Seaford office as a RPR. His past work experience includes working as a water/ sewer plant operator. Prior to being a plant operator he worked as a superintendent, mostly dealing with the construction of water/ sewer plants. Hoffman is currently working on various street rehabilitation projects throughout the City of Lewes.

Dean Townsend joins the GMB Salisbury office for the winter months as an intern for the architectural department. He is currently a senior at the University of Maryland, College Park, nearing completion of a Bachelor of Science in Architecture.
