Small’s departure becomes effective next month, although she is using remaining vacation days up until the retirement date, the Delaware State News reported.
Small championed a number of events aimed at bringing visitors to the county, including the Delaware Beer and Wine Festival.
The Kent County tourism economy has been dealing with declining attendance from the two NASCAR weekends at Dover International Speedway.
That has been partially offset by new music festivals, such as Firefly at the Dover Downs complex, as well as two recent country music events.
Small told the State News she will remain involved in the community
“I’m excited about the future and new opportunities — I still have a lot to give to this great state that has given so much to me,” she said.
