Connolly Gallagher LLP announces that Ryan P. Newell and Scott E. Swenson have been elected partners of the firm, effective January 1, 2014. Both have practiced with Connolly Gallagher since its inception in 2012, and before then with the Business Law Group of Connolly Bove Lodge & Hutz LLP since 2005.

Ryan P. Newell focuses on corporate and commercial litigation in the District of Delaware, the Delaware Court of Chancery, and the Delaware Superior Court.

Newell’s practice also includes corporate counseling and he is a certified mediator in the Superior Court. From 2005 to 2008,  Newell was part of the team that successfully defended the State of Delaware before the United States Supreme Court in an original jurisdiction action brought by New Jersey that challenged Delaware’s sovereignty over the Delaware River within its historic Twelve Mile Circle.

Newell is regularly consulted about electronically stored information and document retention issues, and writes frequently about current developments in Delaware law.

Newell has been recognized by Super Lawyers as a Rising Star in Business Litigation. The Delaware Supreme Court appointed him to the Commission on Law and Technology, where he chairs the electronic discovery subgroup.

In 2010, the Delaware State Bar Association presented   Newell with its New Lawyers Distinguished Service Award. Mr. Newell has served as the president of the St. Thomas More Society of the Catholic Diocese of Wilmington, is the president of the Notre Dame Club of Delaware, and serves on the board of the Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Wilmington.

Newell received his bachelor’s degree in 2002 from the Mendoza School of Business of the University of Notre Dame. He received his law degree in 2005 from the Dickinson School of Law of the Pennsylvania State University, where he served on the Penn State Law Review.

Scott E. Swenson focuses his practice on estate planning and administration, estate and trust litigation, and advising trustees and other fiduciaries on matters including trust administration, trust modification and risk management.

He has represented many institutional and individual clients, as fiduciaries and as beneficiaries, in trust and estate matters before the Court of Chancery. His practice also includes taxation, alternative entities, non-profit organizations, tax controversies, and guardianship. He is admitted to practice in Delaware and Maryland.

Swenson received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Maryland in 2001 and his J.D. from the University of Pennsylvania Law School in 2005, also earning a Certificate in Business and Public Policy from The Wharton School.

Jackson, Paolucci join Goodwill 

Goodwill of Delaware and Delaware County has added two new members to the Mission Services team. Jeff Jackson was hired as a grant writer and Kathryn Paolucci joins Goodwill as the manager of staffing services.

Jackson is responsible for identifying opportunities for corporate and foundation support and strategic funding partnerships to advance Goodwill’s mission. Prior to joining Goodwill, Jackson led the development and donor relations efforts of the PMI Educational Foundation and Child, Inc.

Jeff  has experience in fund development, grant research and writing, public relations, strategic planning and nonprofit management to his work at Goodwill. He earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Delaware and a master’s degree in philanthropy and development from Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota.

Paolucci was hired to help grow Goodwill’s full-service temporary staffing agency, which matches individuals seeking employment with area business both large and small. Goodwill provides full- and part-time employees who are ready to work in a wide variety of settings. Kathryn joins Goodwill following 14 years of experience in talent acquisition and sales. She was most recently client services manager at Liberty Staffing.  Kathryn holds a bachelor’s degree in sociology from Boston University.

 

Allen joins SOLitude

SOLitude Lake Management, a company involved in lake and pond management, fisheries management and related environmental services for the Eastern United States, welcomed Wesley Allen to their management team. SOLitude has an office in Newark. Allen holds a B.A. in Environmental Science from Gettysburg College in Pennsylvania and has 12 years of stormwater, wetland, and aquatic management experience.

Before  joining SOLitude, he managed an environmental consulting firm and was responsible for their significant growth.

In addition to being an Environmental Scientist, Wesley completed training in Advanced and Basic Wetland Delineation, ASTM Phase 1 and 2 training, Delaware Certified Construction review course and Delaware Nutrient Management Certification course. He is a licensed Aquatic Pesticide Applicator in Delaware, Maryland, and Pennsylvania and a SePRO Preferred Applicator. He has completed AquaMaster fountain and aerator field service technician training and has completed the Filtrexx Green-Technology Best Management Practices training.

“We are certain that Wesley’s experience managing over 450 ponds, wetlands, and environmentally-sensitive areas will bring a tremendous knowledge base to our team,” said Kevin Tucker, president. “

Chief marketer leaves DuPont

DuPont said Chief Marketing & Sales Officer Scott Coleman resigned to pursue another opportunity.

Coleman, 50, led the company’s marketing and sales practices and competencies, marketing services and the DuPont Brand.  Before joining DuPont in 2011, Coleman was executive vice president, Marketing & Corporate Development for Dresser, Inc.

He also held a variety of leadership positions with General Electric and Rockwell Automation in marketing, sales and business operations. His replacement will be named later.

Dunning named county HR director

County Executive Tom Gordon   appointed Christine R. Dunning to the position of Acting Chief of Human Resources for New Castle County.

Dunning, a Wilmington Police officer of 27 years, recently retired as the first female Police Chief in WPD history.  Her initial experience in Human Resources was as Training Lieutenant, overseeing recruitment, hiring and the development of police academies.

She later returned to the Office of Human Resources after her promotion to Captain in 2010 and oversaw the HR budget, compliance with accreditation standards, and overall management of the office.

“We’re taking advantage of her professional and educational background in HR, along with her experience in running a police department,” County Executive Gordon said. “As a former Police Chief, I can attest to the leadership skills one develops in that position.”

“We commend Assistant County Attorney Laura Hay for the work she has done leading the department of Human Resources in the interim,” said CAO David Grimaldi. “We are excited about the future of the department under the leadership of former Chief Dunning,” he added.

Dunning says she looks forward to carrying out the executive’s directive to increase the applicant pool and diversity within the county ranks.

“The County Executive has been very mindful of the upcoming retirements and vacancies within the County,” she said. “He wants HR to increase its reach throughout the County in an effort to find the best and the brightest for public service.”

Dunning, a Wilmington native, attended St. Thomas Elementary School and graduated from Padua Academy in 1980. In 1984, she completed her Bachelor of Arts Degree at the University of Delaware. Dunning later completed a Master’s Degree in Human Resources Management at Wilmington University while working as a police officer.

Dunning is a graduate of the FBI National Academy and is a member of the Delaware Chapter of the FBI National Academy. She sits on the State Council of Police Training and is a board member of the Kingswood Community Center in Wilmington.

She is married to her husband of 22 years, Bob and have three children.
