Streaming live: Governor’s noon Wed. press conference on transport funding

Delaware Business Daily will stream a press conference by Gov. Jack Markell on transportation Funding at noon on Wednesday.

Markell will be joined by Transportation Secretary Shailen Bhatt in briefing the media and guests on his initiative to add $500 million in transportation spending over the next five years to create jobs and bolster the Transportation Trust Fund.

Also in attendance will be business leaders, the American Council of Engineering Companies, Building Trades Council and the Home Builders Association of Delaware.

The press conference comes via Livestream, a technology that is part of the administration’s emphasis on social media and related technology.

The News Journal, citing sources, said Markell will seek a 10-cent-a-gallon fuel tax hike.

Both neighboring Maryland and Pennsylvania have recently bolstered transportation spending. Delaware lawmakers have historically been reluctant to increase fees and fuel taxes to fund transporation spending.
