Sallie Mae, Newark, formally SLM Corporation,  announced the appointment of  Raymond J. Quinlan who becomes the company’s Vice Chairman, an executive officer position of SLM Corporation.  Quinlan will be appointed to the Boards of Directors of the company and Sallie Mae Bank.

His initial responsibilities will be to work with company management and the Boards of Directors of the company and the Bank to complete ongoing preparation of the company’s consumer banking business, including the bank, for separation from the company’s education loan management business, as previously announced in the company’s public filings (the “Separation and Distribution”). Upon the Separation and Distribution, Quinlan will assume the roles of Executive Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of the publicly-traded successor to SLM Corporation, which will continue to own Sallie Mae Bank and various, related, consumer finance businesses.

“I welcome Ray at this pivotal time in Sallie Mae Bank’s transition. His in-depth experience will be invaluable as we prepare for the planned separation,” said Jack Remondi, President and Chief Executive Officer of SLM Corporation.

Quinlan arrives from CIT Group where he served as Executive Vice President, Banking since 2010. He has been a bank industry executive for more than 30 years, having served as Chairman and CEO of the Citicorp Retail Financial Services businesses that include Citibank, CitiFinancial, and Primerica Financial Services. While at Citicorp,  Quinlan also launched Citibank Direct, a full service Internet bank. He has also previously served as Executive Chairman of Coastal States Bank.

Joe DePaulo will continue to serve as Executive Vice President of Banking and Finance until the separation and will continue to work on the transition of Sallie Mae Bank. Upon separation, Mr. DePaulo will lead the development and execution of Sallie Mae Bank’s consumer lending business.

Kruelle takes post at Roch Capital

Roch  Capital announced  Carl Kruelle has been named  Senior Vice President & Director of Acquisitions. Kruelle, who transitioned from an affiliate in the fall, will source and execute acquisitions across all real estate asset classes including hospitality, office, retail, flex/industrial, multi-family, student housing, mixed-use, single tenant net lease properties and corporate sale leasebacks.

Kruelle was the former Chief Lending Officer for Applied Bank (affiliate of  Roch Capital) and led their Commercial Banking Group, which he instituted in 2007. He has extensive knowledge and experience providing funding solutions and consulting services to hoteliers, commercial real estate investors/developers and operating companies, resulting in more than $1 billion in transactions.

Project managers join Emory Hill

Emory Hill & Company announced  that Theodore (Tab) Book and Ed Kotsay have both joined the firm as construction project managers.

Book will serve as a project manager and has over 30 years of experience in the construction industry including work in the industrial, commercial, government, healthcare, medical, and retail fields. The wide array of projects on which he has worked provides a depth of professional experience for potential clients seeking assistance with construction management or general contracting. Recent projects have included a 12,000 square-foot building for the Army Corp of Engineers at Dover Air Force Base (a LEED Silver Project), a 200,000 square-foot  design/build office campus in Dove,, Southside Family Practice, Dynamic Physical Therapy, Wells Fargo and others. Tab started working as a laborer at age 15 and has acquired  hands-on experience in almost every facet of construction. He has a Bachelor Degree from Syracuse University.

Kotsay will serve as an estimator and project manager and has more than 20  years of experience in the construction industry in both areas. Prior to joining Emory Hill, he worked for several firms in New Jersey and Pennsylvania including Keating Building Corporation, Skanska USA and Tri-State Design Construction. Ed specializes in project management and estimating within the design-build industry. He attended Drexel University, the Pennsylvania Institute of Technology and Strayer College and is a member of the American Society of Professional Estimators.

Emory Hill & Company is the commercial construction division of the Emory Hill Companies which provide the Mid-Atlantic area with comprehensive commercial and residential real estate services including commercial brokerage, construction, property management, maintenance and residential sales.

Boire to head accounting marketing group

Jayla Boire has been named CEO of  the  Association for Accounting Marketing (AAM).

The group, based in Bel Air, Md. has more than 800 members. Boire is the first CEO of the organization.

The Association for Accounting Marketing provides resources, education, seminars, workshops, support and a global network to the accounting marketing industry.  Boire formerly headed The Right Idea,  a marketing consulting firm based in the Wilmington area.

Panunto to head Long & Foster’s Bear office

Frank Panunto has been named manager of Long & Foster  Real Estate’s Bear, Del., office,  at 1271 Quintilio Drive.

Panunto comes to Long & Foster with prior managerial experience in the real estate business. In his most recent role, he was responsible for corporate recruiting, agent training and education. He also directed his former firm’s strategic market development.

Prior to his recent management position, Panunto worked in real estate sales for 19 years, serving home buyers and sellers in the New Castle County market.

Paragon Design adds staff

Paragon Design, Newark,  increased its staff to manage a growing number of projects.

Last year creative director and agency owner Rob Paraskewich welcomed Natalie Gallagher to Paragon Design as Director of Digital Strategies to broaden its digital media capabilities and develop creative approaches to different forms of digital media.

This will offer clients a breadth of options to integrate into their marketing communications strategies. Natalie   brings to Paragon Design her experience managing Web and other digital media for both the public and private sectors.

Amanda O’Neal has joined Paragon Design as Project Coordinator, bringing with her almost a decade of customer service experience with scheduling and client interaction. As traffic coordinator, she keeps a pulse on the agency’s active creative projects and deadlines, playing a vital role in maintaining the agency’s first-rate performance. Personable and highly productive, Amanda is also the agency’s estimator, ensuring projects are executed in the most cost-effective way and that clients are kept informed.

In 2012 Paragon Design welcomed Erin Haehle as its newest Graphic Designer. Erin works  across different types of media, from print to digital projects. This is especially useful with complex projects, such as events or product introductions that require a variety of media to execute them successfully. She is Paragon Design’s leading designer for print collateral and collaborates well to execute multidimensional programs.

Two Morris, Nichols partners announced

The law firm of Morris, Nichols, Arsht & Tunnell LLP  announced  that Susan Wood Waesco and Kevin Coen have been elected partners effective January 1, 2014. Rick Alexander, Chair of the firm’s Executive Committee, made the announcement.

Susan Wood Waesco joined Morris Nichols in 2002 and is a member of the firm’s Corporate and Business Litigation Group.  Her practice focuses on proceedings in the Delaware Court of Chancery and the Delaware Supreme Court arising under the Delaware General Corporation Law, including litigation involving corporate mergers and acquisitions and shareholder class and derivative actions.  Susan also represents national and regional clients in complex business disputes pending in the Delaware Court of Chancery, the Delaware Superior Court, and the Delaware District Court. Susan is a 1998 graduate of The University of Michigan Law School, where she served as Associate Editor, and Note Editor, of University of Michigan Journal of Law Reform.

Kevin M. Coen joined Morris Nichols in 2005 and is a member of the firm’s Corporate and Business Litigation Group.  His practice focuses on corporate and commercial litigation in the Delaware Court of Chancery and appellate practice in the Supreme Court of the State of Delaware.  Kevin is a 2005 graduate magna cum laude of Villanova University School of Law, where he served as Associate Editor for Villanova Law Review and was elected to Order of the Coif.
