newlogoThe Greene Turtle has  arrived in  central Delaware with the opening a restaurant on DuPont Highway in Dover.

The newest Greene Turtle  is at the site of a long-vacant restaurant site.

The Maryland-based chain is undergoing a major expansion and has added locations in Lewes, Rehoboth and Newark in recent years. The Rehoboth location features a second-floor view of the Atlantic and a  balcony for dining in the summer. The first Greene Turtle opened in the 1970s in Ocean City, Md.

Green Turtles offer a sports bar-like atmosphere, but also work to be family friendly. The restaurants have broadened their menu offerings.

The Dover area is popular with restaurant chains,  with one of the most recent entries being Cheddar’s in Camden-Wyoming. Dover did see the closing of Uno’s, a restaurant specializing in deep dish pizza.
