Frontier-Airlines---AirbusFrontier Airlines  is expanding its nonstop service from the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport  to Denver International Airport, according to the The Lane Report, a Kentucky publication.

The expansion at the Kentucky airport by Frontier is being closely watched as the carrier looks for destinations that put it out of the line of fire with Southwest and United in Denver.  The airport has struggled after  Delta’s decision to cut back service.

The expanded service will begin in May of 2014 with the addition of two new weekly flights growing to a total of 11 weekly flights by August 2014. Frontier first began service from CVG in May of 2013 becoming the first discount carrier to serve  the Ohio airport  since 1998. In October of this year, Frontier announced it was adding a second destination with three flights a week to Trenton Mercer Airport,  beginning Feb. 12.

So far, Frontier has not indicated it plans to add service to the Kentucky airport from New Castle. Frontier will add service to Detroit and Atlanta from New Castle this spring. Frontier’s strategy is to keep flights at least 90 percent full with a few flights a week to select destinations. Frontier does offer service from New Castle to Denver.

The  expanded schedule will offer two flights a day on Sunday, Monday, Wednesday and Thursday and one flight a day on Tuesday, Friday and Saturday. Both departure times will offer customers convenient flight connections from Denver to 19 destinations, primarily on the West Coast.
