Delaware jobless rate falls to 6.5%

jobsDelaware’s jobless rate fell to 6.5% in November. That is down from 6.8% in 2013 and more than 7 percent during the summer.

There were 28,500 unemployed Delawareans in November 2013, compared to 31,300 in November 2012.

The U.S. unemployment rate was 7 % in November down from 7.3% in Octo- ber 2013. In November 2012, the U.S. unemployment rate was 7.8, while Delaware’s rate was 7%.

State labor officials said information used to calculate the rate indicates that the jobless figures has the potential to drop further in coming months.

In November 2013, seasonally adjusted nonfarm employment was 429,500, up from 429,000 in October 2013. Since November 2012, Delaware’s total nonfarm jobs have increased by a net gain of  8,400, a rise of 2%. Nationally, jobs during that period increased 1.7%.

At the same time, however  the Delaware labor force is down 7,400 since late 2012  and the number of state  residents employed is down 4,200.
