The Firefly Music Festival will be extended from three to four days early next summer. The popular event, in a wooded area near Dover International Speedway, will be held from June 19 through 22nd.  The additional day  is expected to move the festival into the attendance category of  the largest music  festivals Announcements of  artists and bands to appear at the event will be made next year.
The event will move into its third year in 2014. It has seen attendance grow steadily.  The overall management  of the festival and the good behavior among fest-goers has  been viewed as a plus for the state and county. In addition to the music, the festival features food, beer, wine and something known as “glamping” or more upscale camping facilities.
The event has provided a boost to a central Delaware tourism economy that has taken a hit from declining attendance at the speedway’s two NASCAR weekends. Track operator Dover Motorsports gets a share of the proceeds from the festival and that boosted the company’s profits.
