TD Bank will formally  announce a new credit card center in Hercules Plaza early next month.

The long-rumored site near the Brandywine  will employ 75 people, according to an announcement by the bank.  TD has posted hiring notices for  individuals with credit card experience.

The credit card center of excellence for the bank’s North American operations  will be located at Hercules Plaza  on the upper end of Market Street. Delaware continues to have a strong labor market when it comes to specialized skills in financial services. Major banks have continued to hire staff in the state while cutting back operations elsewhere.

TD is leasing 19,000 square feet, including common areas at the building owned by Wilmington-based McConnell Johnson Real Estate.

TD has acquired the credit card portfolio of discount giant Target, but has stated that there wold not be a transfer of jobs to Delaware. Rumors of such a move were widespread in the industry that employs tens of thousands of Delawareans and where moving from one company to another is not uncommon.

Speculation has also indicated that TD, a part of a Canadian banking giant, might be shopping for other credit card operations and banks.

TD has been mentioned as a possible buyer of Citizens Bank, which is primarily owned by the British government after problems at its owner, the Royal Bank of Scotland. However, the CEO of TD dismissed such speculation.

A spokeswoman for TD confirmed that  credit card  staff is already working at Hercules Plaza, named after the Wilmington company that is now part of Ashland, Inc. Ashland is one of the tenants in the building.
