Tickets are now available for Taste of Newark the top foodie event in Newark. The event is scheduled for Sept. 29 at the Old College Lawn with the rain location in Clayton Hall.

Guests  will enjoy fare from more than 50 Newark restaurants accompanied by offerings from  area wine distributors. Tickets are $45 in advance; $60 at the door.

This year’s event may have a bittersweet quality as it will be the last to be presided over by Mayor Vance Funk, who steps down at the end of September. Funk, however, vows he will remain visible as “the mayor of Main Street.” Funk was a founder of the event.

Guest chef is  Executive Chef David Puser. He has worked as a chef in Switzerland since 1989 and has served for more than a decade as the executive chef of the Swiss School of Tourism and Hospitality. In a typical week, Puser teaches three cooking classes in German and two in English. He lives in a village in the eastern Swiss Alps with his wife and two children.

Planned  this year is an  “Iron Chef” style Battle of the Chefs! Now in its fifth year, Newark’s best chefs battle for the title of Newark’s Top Chef with one hour to concoct dishes  from a secret list of ingredients.
