lafiaA bakery-cafe from a well known regional chef has opened in the LOMA area of downtown at 421 S. Market St.

La Fia is a project of Bryan and Andrea Sikora. Bryan was a co-founder of Django in Philadelphia and Talula’s Table in Kennett Square with his former wife Aimee Olexy. Olexy still owns Talula’s and a restaurant in Philadelphia. Silkora most recently managed with akitchen, a Philadelphia restaurant

Both Olexy and Sikora are closely followed in the Philadelphia area and even nationally.

Talula’s Table, was said to be the hardest place in the nation to get a reservation, serving one meal a night for up to a dozen people. Reservations are taken one year ahead of the meal.

La Fia has drawn attention from the Philadelphia Inquirer, which is not an avid follower of the Wilmington-area dining scene. La Fia opened its bakery first bakery and gourmet market with the bistro to follow.

La Fia, according to a Facebook post, received assistance from the First State Community Loan Fund obtaining a Small Business Administration Loan. Fia also received assistance of Wilmington Area Development Corp. and the city Office of Economic Development.

The restaurant is housed in a building owned by Buccini/Pollin Group, which is redeveloping a large area of downtown.

The OpenTable reservation site offers reservations for the bistro, beginning on July 9.

  1. Your POP-UP to subscribe to the newsletter is getting obnoxious…………as a matter of fact, it just popped up twice while I was typing this.

    But, I love your newsletter!!!!!!

  2. I have adjusted the pop-up settings to make a little less obnoxious. The pop-up is a necessity in sign-ups for the Business Bulletin. Perhaps some day, technology will advance to the point that subscribers to the Bulletin will not get the pop up. -Doug
