In September 2010, the Delaware Humane Association  initiated a capital campaign to raise funds for an animal shelter and adoption center to replace the current 40 year old facility.

The organization resolved to remain in the city of Wilmington and create a new home for the animals on its present site at 701 A Street.

Preparation for the new shelter began in April 2012,

On June 25, as DHA celebrated its 56th birthday, DHR broke ground on The Tatiana and Gerret Copeland Animal Care & Companion Center. Construction will be ongoing for eight months to a year, and DHA anticipates moving into its new home between March and July 2014.

The group needs to raise about $80,000 to reach a goal of $3.1 million. Further information is available at dehumane.org/newshelterdonate
