Claymont man arrested after construction equipment, copper wire thefts

State Police detectives arrested a Claymont man  in connection with a series of burglaries of copper wire and construction equipment in recent months.

Detectives arrested Donald Grier, 59, of Claymont, during a traffic stop on Kirkwood Highway.

Two break-ins occurred at the Delmarva Power substation at 200 Hay Road, near Wilmington. Grier is accused of cutting through a fence to reach the electric substation where  copper wire was removed.

A theft  occurred at M. Davis Company, 19 Germay Drive, Wilmington. On July 13, three people broke into the company’s supply yard and stole construction equipment.

Two other thefts were discovered on July 15. One occurred at a construction site at 2201 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington, where metal and tools from construction trailers. The other occurred in the parking lot 400 Stanton Christiana Road, Newark, where metal and tools were taken from a construction trailer.

Grier was charged with four counts of burglary third degree, six counts of possession of burglar tools, four counts of theft over $1,500, three counts of conspiracy second degree, two counts of theft under $1,500, three counts of conspiracy third degree, five counts of criminal mischief under $1,000, and three counts of trespass second degree. He was taken to Howard R. Young Correctional Institute on $45,000 secured bail.
