[Not a valid template]The Old Fashioned Ice Cream Festival at Rockwood   brought thousand of people to the county-owned  park near Wilmington.

Ice cream vendors were busy on a warm, but not overly hot summer day. It was more competitive for food vendors, with some seeing long lines and others with instant service.

A variety of other consumer-oriented businesses, ranging from home improvement to a car dealership, were also on hand, along with music and children’s entertainment.

The festival is back for its second straight year after a hiatus brought on by  New Castle budget problems.

The last two festivals have been a partnership between the county and Barry’s Events,  operated by Barry Schlecker. Schlecker has revived local events that have run into problems and  founded the recent Wilmington Film Festival.

County Executive Tom Gordon strongly supported the festival and has approved work on the mansion at the park.
