An auction is slated on Tuesday for Customs House Plaza.

The nearly 90,000-square-foot, six-story downtown Wilmington building is at 704 King St. It is near county, state and federal offices and has access to parking operated by the city of Wilmington.

Conducting the auction is AmeriBid, a company based in Tulsa, Okla.

“This is a prime opportunity to own six floors of incredible office space,” said Eugene Davidzon, regional director  for AmeriBid.  “Because of the sheer amount of space available, we’re expecting creative buyers at the auction that are willing to give this property a boost.  The location just can’t be beat; it is just behind the DoubleTree Hilton hotel and next door to city and county offices.  Not to mention it is just a block from Wilmington’s resurging Market Street.”

Class B buildings, like Customs House, have been caught in a sluggish office market, with tenants often moving to Class A office space, sometimes at discounted rates. Technology  has also lessened the attraction for law firms of a location close to government offices.

In March, an auction was held for the Jefferson Plaza office building on the west end of downtown Wilmington.

Officials of the auction arm of CBRE did not respond to a request for comment on the results of that auction.
