Bob Lutz, who helped keep the automobile industry going in Delaware for a number of years, is part of a group that according to Reuters, is trying to salvage Fisker Automotive.

The news service reported  boutique carmaker led by  Lutz  and China’s largest auto parts supplier made an offer this month to buy Fisker Automotive.

Reuters also reported investors in Europe and Hong Kong are seeking to buy out the U.S. Department of Energy’s stake in Fisker.  The deals could fall apart, the sources reported.

None of this is expected to offer any hope for plans to build a mid-sized Fisker in Delaware. That project would have been funded by a now-suspended federal loan.

Lutz was instrumental in bringing production of the Dodge Durango to the Newark Assembly Plant in the 1990s  and while at G.M. championing  the Pontiac Solstice at the Boxwood plant, which had been slated to be the home of the Fisker automobile.
