DuPont, Turner named to WSFS board

WSFS Financial Corporation announced the election of two new members to its Board of Directors: Eleuthère I. du Pont and David G. Turner. Both were elected to the board for a three-year term at the annual meeting.

Du Pont is President of the Longwood Foundation, a private foundation principally supporting charitable organizations in the Delaware Valley. He serves on the Board of Directors of E. I. du Pont de Nemours and Co., is Chair of its Audit Committee and is a member of its Science and Technology Committee. In addition, he is Chairman of the Board of the Delaware Alliance for Nonprofit Advancement (DANA) and of the Community Education Building.

Prior to his current positions, du Pont was Senior Vice President for Operations and Chief Financial Officer of drugstore.com, where he was responsible for distribution and pharmacy operations, purchasing and finance. He also served as President and Chief Financial Officer of Wawa, Inc., a retailer operating more than 550 food market stores in the Mid-Atlantic region.

Turner is Vice President and Partner at IBM Global Business Services where he leads the North American Analytics Practice for its financial services clients. Previously he was employed with MBNA / Bank of America serving in senior leadership roles, retiring as the Chief Data Officer responsible for the enterprise information strategy.

Turner was also Executive Vice President at Gateway, Inc. after beginning his career at AT&T where he spent 14 years in sales, marketing and e-commerce roles.

In addition to his current position, Turner is Vice Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Delaware State University and adjunct professor at the University of Delaware.

Turner received a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and Mathematics from Delaware State University, a Master of Science in Information Systems from Farleigh Dickinson University and has attended Tuck Executive Education at Dartmouth College.

Pomeroy named County Chamber chairman

Paul Pomeroy, managing partner and director of Marketing at ab+c in Wilmington, has been named chairman of the board of the New Castle County Chamber of Commerce. As chairman, Pomeroy will energize the County Chamber’s mission and champion for its 1,400 members.

“Paul brings a depth of knowledge to the County Chamber that is going to further strengthen our advocacy for a strong and stable economic environment in New Castle County. We’re delighted to welcome him as our chair,” said New Castle County Chamber of Commerce President Mark Kleinschmidt.

Pomeroy has been with ab+c since 1999 and provides strategic counsel to agency clients in addition to managerial support. Before joining ab+c, he was a senior communications consultant for a D.C.-based consulting firm that specializes in marketing communication strategy. More recently, he served as national director of a D.C.-/Delaware-based non-partisan education and lobbying organization.

Born and raised in Delaware, he served three terms as an elected member of Newark City Council, stepping down after his final term. During his time on council, Paul focused on business and economic development issues, founding the Greater Newark Network and the newly formed Greater Newark Area Economic Development Partnership. Pomeroy’s commitment to improving the community can be seen through his involvement with organizations such as Goodwill Industries of Delaware and Delaware County, the Friends of the Newark Free Library and the Delaware Humane Association.

Pomeroy received a Bachelor of Sciences degree in marketing from Georgetown University and holds a master’s degree from the George Washington University School of Business and Public Policy.

Leahy retiring from Community Foundation

Hugh Leahy will retire this June after serving for eight years as the Delaware Community Foundation’s senior vice president for southern Delaware.

In this position, Leahy has been responsible for representing the DCF in Kent and Sussex Counties and expanding the foundation’s relationships with donors and their advisors. He has played central roles in the growth of the successful Youth Philanthropy Boards in each county and the formation of The Next Generation of Southern Delaware.

Leahy joined the DCF in 2005 with more than 35 years of experience in the financial services industry. During his banking career, he led all areas of consumer banking and retail investments and retired as executive vice president and manager of the personal financial services department at Wilmington Trust and president of the Delaware Bankers Association. “I retired early, but wanted to stay involved in fostering positive change. This position allowed me to stay active while also making an impact in the community,” Leahy said.

“Hugh has been an integral part of the DCF’s expansion and development over the past years. He has made an enormous impact in the Foundation’s ability to serve Kent and Sussex Counties,” CEO Fred Sears said. “We appreciate all that he has brought to the Foundation and wish him the best in his retirement.”

Wallo promoted at Beebe

Beebe Medical Center promoted Nurse Manager Jeannie Briley-Wallo, RN, to the position of Director of Patient Experience. In her new role, Jeannie will design processes, educate staff, and support leadership in the management of exceptional customer service at all Beebe facilities and offices in Sussex County.  She will focus on achieving a consistently positive experience for all who obtain health care services at Beebe.

Jeannie has served in nursing management roles at Beebe Medical Center for the past 15 years, first as a Nursing Supervisor, and for the last five years as a Nurse Manager of Staffing.

Jeannie is a Lewes native, and earned her nursing degree from Beebe School of Nursing,

She began working as a nurse at Beebe Medical Center in 1993, first in the Critical Care unit and then in Cardiac Rehabilitation. In 1998, she became a Nursing Supervisor and oversaw patient care and staffing in several units of the hospital.

Delaware Estuary board members named

The Partnership for the Delaware Estuary,a nonprofit organization working to prevent water pollution in coastal Delaware, southern New Jersey, and Southeast Pennsylvania named six persons to three-year terms on its governing board of directors. The organization is based in Wilmington.

They are;

Beth Archer, vice president with Anne Klein Communications Group, LLC, of Mount Laurel, N.J. In this position, she provides strategic counsel and other services for clients in the energy, health care, and higher education industries.

Roy E. Denmark, Jr., vice president at Urban Engineers, Inc., an engineering-consulting firm headquartered in Philadelphia.

Denmark retired from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Philadelphia District in 2011 after 37 years of federal service.

Robert K. Dobbs, Jr. , director of the Camden County Soil Conservation District, n West Berlin, N.J.

Dobbs has a B.S. in horticulture from Delaware Valley College, and he previously studied at George Washington University.

Kimberly Long is with Excelon in Kennett Square, Pa.  In this role, she provides expertise and support in the areas of aquatic biology, permitting, environmental compliance, relicensing, and stream and wetland encroachments.

Thomas J. O’Connor, , vice president of customer operations at Aqua America, an investor-owned water utility headquartered in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania.

Scott J. Schwarz, senior attorney in the City of Philadelphia Law Department.
