A Taco Bell on Coastal Highway in Rehoboth Beach was closed after an SUV ran into the structure.
State Police said the accident occurred at 11:44 p.m., Saturday, as Gregory Pflug, 60, Rehoboth Beach, drove his 2011 Honda Pilot through the Taco Bell drive through.
As he left the area, troopers said Pflug drove around the building, accelerated suddenly, drove over a flower bed, through an outdoor seating area, and into the northeast corner of the building. Pflug then left his vehicle and fled on foot. He was followed by witnesses and apprehended by troopers.
No one was injured. Pflug was issued a summons for driving a vehicle under the influence of alcohol, failing to have insurance identification in possession, speed exhibition, leaving the scene of a property damage crash, and failing to provide information at the scene of a property damage crash. An inspection of the Taco Bell determined it could not remain open.
