Maryland Live take bite out of other casinos

Maryland Live continues to take a bite out of Delaware casinos and Hollywood Casino west of the Delaware line.

Maryland Lottery officials reported Hollywood Casino Perryville generated nearly $9.5 million from both slot machines and table games in March. Gross gaming revenue per unit per day was: $225.37 for slot machines and nearly $4 million for table games. Hollywood Casino, near the Baltimore-Washington International Airport, saw revenues drop with the opening of Maryland Live. It also struggles with tolls across the Susquehanna River.

The Baltimore-Washington area is also a key market for Delaware casinos, which don’t release monthly figures, but have seen revenues drop. The drawing power of Maryland Live also extends to Atlantic City, N.J., which has also struggled with casino revenues.

Hollywood Casino’s March 2013 revenue decreased by $4.3 million or 34.57% from March 2012. Hollywood Casino Perryville operates 1,148 machines and 20 table games. Table games opened in early March.

The Casino at Ocean Downs, in the Ocean City, Md. area generated nearly $4 million in revenue in March. The gross gaming revenue per machine per day was $159.22. The Casino at Ocean Downs’ March 2013 revenue decreased by $130,622 or 3.2% from March 2012. The casino operates 800 machines.

By contrast, Maryland Live Casino generated $44.6 million in March. Gaming revenue for each machine per day was $348.55. Maryland Live operates 4,129 machines. In a year-to-year comparison, minus Maryland Live, which opened in June 2012. March 2013 casino revenue decreased from March 2012 by $4.4 million or 26.7 percent..
