Jewelry store clerk injured after climbing on hood of fleeing vehicle

[Not a valid template]A jewelry store clerk was slightly injured Saturday afternoon, after jumping on the hood of a vehicle driven by a robbery suspect.

Newrk Police reported the incident occurred at 2:50pm on Saturday at the Anemoni Jewelers in the Shops at Louviers on Papermill Road.

A male suspect entered the store and asked to look at several pieces of jewelry. The  clerk, 44,  removed the jewelry from the display case and after several minutes of looking at the jewelry, the suspect fled the store on foot with the items.

The clerk chased the suspect  who fled  behind the shopping center and into the Woods of Louviers development. The suspect then got into a  into a parked vehicle near the intersection of Longwood Lane and Hagley Court.  Police reported the The clerk jumped onto the hood of the vehicle as it began to speed away but was thrown off when the vehicle struck a curb. The vehicle then fled in an unknown direction.

The suspect is described as a dark skinned black male, 25 to 35 years of age, 5’8” to 6’ tall with a muscular build, clean shaven and with short cropped hair. He was wearing a tan striped sweater and tan pants.

The suspect vehicle is described as a tan Ford Explorer, possibly   with Maryland tags. The vehicle may have damage to the front windshield wiper assembly.

The clerk was transported via Aetna ambulance to Christiana Hospital where he was treated for a broken hand after falling off of the vehicle.
