Seaford man held in connection with copper wire theft

A Seaford man is being held after copper wire from an irrigation system was found in his truck.

On Thursday, at around 11:45 p.m., State Police were patrolling the area of Apple Tree Road east of Bridgeville and saw a green pick-up truck off the side of the road with a white rag hanging out of the window. Thas is usually a sign that a vehicle is disabled.

The area, where the vehicle was found, has several irrigation systems that have been the targets of copper wire thefts.

Within 15 minutes, the same truck was seen leaving the area and a traffic stop was conducted.

Ronnie L. Rust, 40 of Seaford, the lone occupant of the truck, was at the scene and several spools of irrigaiton wire were spotted in the bed of the vehicle.

Rust was taken into custody without incident. He was found to be in possession of .2 grams of cocaine.  A search of the interior of the truck revealed heavy duty cable cutters.

Rust was arraigned at JP3 and jailed on $10,500.00 secured bond.
