3 arrested in connection with air-conditioner thefts

[Not a valid template]State Police have arrested three people from New Castle in connection with the theft of air-conditioners from a business and church.

The first theft was reported on Jan. 31 when staff of the Buchi Corporation, 19 Lukens Drive, New Castle, arrived at work and found four central air conditioning units missing from the front of the building.

The second incident occurred at 3:20 a.m. on Feb. 2, when a witness called 911 to report that suspects were stealing central air conditioning units from the Hope Evangelistic Lutheran Church, 230 Christiana Road, New Castle.

The witness told dispatchers that the subjects stealing the units loaded them into a white Jeep Liberty. Troopers located the vehicle traveling eastbound on State Route . 273, in the area of Rambleton Acres, New Castle. Troopers stopped the Jeep, but the vehicle drove away at a high rate of speed.

Troopers pursued the vehicle along Route 273, north on State Route . 141, north on I-95, and into the city of Wilmington, until the Jeep crashed into a utility pole at the intersection of 10th and Walnut streets.

All three occupants of the vehicle fled on foot, but the driver, Kimberly Porter, 28, and a passenger, Julio Roldan, 25, were quickly apprehended. They were transported to Troop 2 and interviewed by detectives, who were able to link them to both thefts of air conditioning units.

They were each charged with two counts of theft over $1,500, criminal mischief over $5,000, criminal mischief under $1,000, two counts of conspiracy second degree, resisting arrest, and two counts of trespassing third degree. In addition, Porter was charged with numerous traffic offenses. She was committed to Baylor Women’s Correctional Institute on $10,000 secured bail. Roldan was held in Howard R. Young Correctional Institute on $10,000 secured bail.

On Feb. 4, after detectives identified Raymond Barlow, 23, as the third person involved in the thefts. He arrived at Troop 2 where he was charged with two counts of theft over $1,500, criminal mischief over $5,000, criminal mischief under $1,000, two counts of conspiracy second degree, resisting arrest, and two counts of trespassing third degree. He was held Howard R. Young Correctional Institute on $9,700 secured bail.
