The Delaware Hotel and Lodging Association Annual STARS of the Industry dinner not only honors industry associates, but also awarded $14,000 in scholarships to students in the hospitality majors are Delaware colleges and universities. Funds for this effort some from individual donations and from the annual DHLA golf outing.

The students are asked to develop an essay on a current industry topic and a group of educators evaluated them to select the best. This year the topic of the essay was “Portable Technology” (smartphones, tablets, etc.) and its impact.

Perry Patel, Chairman of the Delaware Hotel and Lodging Association presented the awards. This year 28 students submitted essays. Winners are:

– The Gregory S. Kramedas Scholarship was presented by Tina Kramedas, this is a perpetual scholarship trust fund in the amount of $5,000. Kelly Harris, a student at the University of Delaware was the winner.

The Delaware Hotel and Lodging Association awarded three scholarships in the amount $3,000 each to the following hospitality management students:

– Ricquel Talley, a student at the Delaware State University

– Abigail Glauberman, a student at the University of Delaware

– Amber Atallian, a student at Delaware Technical and Community College
