Porter wins Chamber’s Marvel Cup.

Veteran banker  and  community  leader  John “Jack”  Porter was presented  the Josiah Marvel Cup.

Porter headed Delaware Trust prior to his retirement and remains on the board of  Glenmede Trust Co. He worked his way up from teller to  president of  Delaware Trust.

 Porter has been a member of the Board of Directors of The Nemours Foundation and a Trustee of the Alfred I. duPont Testamentary Trust since 1995, and as past  board chairman.. He has been affiliated with Nemours since 1970, serving as Chairman of its Board of Managers from 1987 to 1995.

He  has been active in many business and community organizations, including Delaware Business Roundtable, Christiana Care, Grand Opera House, and Winterthur Museum and Gardens.

Over the years, Delaware Trust, which was the smallest of the state’s major banks,  became known for developing  strong managers who went on to work at other banks in the state and region. Delaware Trust  is the predecessor to the Wells Fargo operations in Delaware.

The award is made annually by the Delaware State Chamber of Commerce for business achievements and community service.

The chamber also presented the Richard DiSabatino Award for service to John Taylor, director of the State Chamber’s Delaware Public Policy Institute. He is a former editorial page editor for The News Journal. The award is in the memory of DiSabatino, a construction executive and chairman of the State Chamber.
