pncOnline banking may be  difficult  as computer attacks continue.

Last week,  banks reported incidents that   are known as denial of service attacks and the problem is said to be continuing.

Several banks, including PNC Bank, have been named as potential targets of new denial-of-service attacks threatened for this week, according  to a story in the University of Delaware’s UDaily online publication.

NBC News reported that PNC was a target on Wednesday. According to UD, a  denial-of-service occurs when an external party or parties overwhelm an organization’s Internet connection with illegitimate traffic, so that actual customers are crowded out. The problem is an issue with traffic volume and does not involve breach of confidential data.

UD has a banking relationship with PNC, one of the three largest full-service banks in Delaware. Chase, Wells Fargo and other banks have also been mentioned as  targets. Iran, which is the target of a boycott over its nuclear program is being mentioned as a possible source of the attacks, according to NBC News.

To date, no major disruptions have occurred, although some customers have reported difficulty getting to the bank’s website for a period of time. Banks are working to reduce the impact of the attacks.
