Entrepreneurship isn’t just for adults, as two Delaware students showed at the National Entrepreneurship Education Forum, held in Atlanta November 9 – 12, where they exhibited their products and participated in a panel for young entrepreneurs.

Destiny Vega, 13, and Victoria Acosta, 10, caught the entrepreneurial bug at Chasing the Dream, a two-week summer camp presented by the Delaware Financial Literacy Institute (DFLI). The annual program, which also includes an after-school component, teaches at-risk youth about entrepreneurship and business start-up.

Destiny, who has attended Chasing the Dream for several years, creates Picture Purses, handbags featuring picture frames teens can personalize with their own photos. Victoria produces Precious Pillows, colorful, fluffy pillows in a variety of kid-friendly patterns.

DFLI Executive Director Ronni Cohen, who also attended the forum, commented, “These girls embody what entrepreneurship is all about. They’re passionate, savvy, know their customers – and most of all, they have fun with it!”

Destiny and Victoria are invited to next attend the Coalition of Organizations for Delaware Entrepreneurship conference on February 23 at the Chase Center on the Riverfront.
