Car-pedestrian crash claims teen's life

The Delaware State Police are investigating a car-pedestrian crash that killed a teen.

The crash occurred at about 9:27 p.m. on Wednesday  as a 15-year-old female was attempting to cross the westbound lanes of Pulaski Highway, west of Quintillo Drive, near Governor’s Square shopping center. She was identified by troopers as Christiana Townsley, 15, of Manheim, Pa.

As she ran north from the grass median into the roadway she was struck by a 2008 Nissan Altima, traveling westbound in the center lane. The Altima was driven by woman, 25, from Elkton, Md.

The teen was transported to Christiana Hospital Trauma Center where she was pronounced dead.

The westbound lanes of Pulaski Highway (U.S. Route 40) were closed for about 1.5 hours while the crash was investigated and cleared. State Police continue to investigate the crash.

The busy area is known for having pedestrians who cross the busy highway at various hours.
